Cognac Camus

Blending is perhaps the most important part of cognac making. Cognacs from the six crus, distilled by different master distillers and aged for various amounts of time in oak, will all have different flavours, aromas and characteristics.

It is the role of the master blender to marry together the different cognacs, in a sense selecting the best of each, and producing a final cognac blend that is harmonious, well balanced and satisfying both on the nose and on the palate.

Like an artist, the master blender will use his stocks of cognac according to his personal taste, creating his own symphony of flavours and aromas, a blend unique to his art.

There is no secret formula in blending a great cognac. One has to intimately know the cognacs from the day they were distilled, to the day the final blend is achieved. It is an art that must be learned from the previous generation, and passed on to the next.

Because blending is such a personal art, it is a rule at Camus that only a direct family member can bear the title of Master Blender.
